You probably read that title and thought, “Likes Google Maps? As do all good folk.” But Google Maps, with its Satellite and Terrain features, are especially important in this burg. Google Maps helps me navigate some of the most convoluted urban geology known to humanity.
If I’m going to a house in an unfamiliar neighborhood, I have learned to case it on Google Maps. Is my destination on a hillside? On a barely-two-lane street on a hillside? Is it feasible to walk from a bus (bus routes often only go so far)? If I’m driving, are creative parking strategies called for?
Feeling guilty and nostalgic, I went to check on the old Wises Maps web site. They’re powered by Google now, too. Oh well.
Another post later today on Wellington psychogeography.
